Bonding Techniques

Bonding techniques can be classified into two main categories:

Tape bonding
Liquid Adhesives

Before Starting (IMPORTANT):

Make sure both surfaces (scalp and hair system base) are clean, dry, and free of ALL residue and oil. Remove any hair/stubble from the area of the scalp to be bonded. We would recommend using rubbing alcohol such as Isopropyl prior to bonding. Simply wipe this over the hair-system base and scalp as a final prep before fitting.

Tape bonding

For those clients who like to remove their system frequently (or even daily), tape bonding has proven to be a very popular method of attaching hair-systems.

The tape is fast, convenient, affordable, and easy to use. It offers simplicity in attachment, removal, and cleaning.

There is now a multitude of different tape options available on the market in a variety of different strengths.  This gives you the capability to accurately control the duration of the hold. If you prefer daily removal, select a light hold tape that will last anywhere between 1-3 days. On the other hand, if you prefer a longer hold, choose one of our stronger tapes, which can provide a very secure hold lasting several weeks.

How to use tape

Instructions

1) Remove the protective backing liner from one side of the double-sided tape and apply it around the perimeter of the hair-system (or all over the base, depending upon the type of hair-system you are using).
2) Remove the other side of the protective backing liner.
3) Position the front of the system in place and then roll the system back over the scalp, making sure the hair does not get onto the tape.
4) Secure the hair-system to your scalp by pressing firmly on the taped areas and smooth it out so there no wrinkles or folds.
5) Simply brush to blend in with your own hair and you are finished.

USEFUL TIPS:

If you are experiencing difficulty aligning your system correctly, spray a light mist of rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl) onto the tape, which will temporarily eliminate the tackiness allowing you a brief moment to slide the system into the correct position before the alcohol evaporates and the tape sticks firm. This will allow you to align the system perfectly every time.  When you are happy the system is in the correct position, press firmly onto the taped area to ensure a strong hold.

Our medical-grade liquid adhesives offer the most secure attachment available. Many of our clients using liquid adhesives will bond their system in place for up to 4 weeks at a time.

How to use Liquid adhesive?

NOTE (these instructions apply to hair systems without a lace front.  For details on lace front bonding, please see the instructions below).

1) Using an application brush, apply a thin layer of adhesive on your scalp (depending upon the strength of the bond required, you can apply the adhesive around the perimeter only or cover the entire scalp)
2) Now apply a thin layer to the underside of the system.  IMPORTANT: If you are using a lace system with a skin perimeter, apply the adhesive to the skin perimeter only. Do not apply the adhesive directly to the lace.
3) Allow each surface to dry separately for 3-5 minutes.
4) Join both surfaces together by positioning the front of the system in place and then roll the system back over the scalp and press firmly together.

USEFUL TIPS:

Applying two coats of adhesive will further strengthen the bond.

For best results, keep the system dry and perspiration free for 24 hours.

Although each surface must be left to dry for 3-5 minutes, a hair dryer can be used to speed up the adhesive curing time.

How to bond a lace front

Lace front systems are very delicate and require a slightly different bonding approach. The following techniques have proven to achieve the most natural hair line appearance and prolong the longevity of the lace by facilitating easier cleanup.

1) Select your preferred method of attachment (tape or adhesive) and fit the system in place as normal, but do not apply tape or adhesive to the lace front section or the forehead area (where the lace will be applied).
2) With the hair-system now correctly aligned and securely in place, take a light-colored eyebrow pencil and trace the contour of the front lace by making a few dots approx. 1/8” in front of the edge of the lace.
3) Now fold the lace front section back, securing it to the top of your head with a hair clip.
4) Brush a thin layer of adhesive (approx. 1-2” back from the front hairline) and work this adhesive layer down to the dots along the hairline, but do not cover the dots.
5) Wipe the dots of your forehead using Isopropyl rubbing alcohol.
6) Allow the adhesive to dry for 3-5 minutes.
7) Apply an extra coat of adhesive is required, which may provide a stronger hold. Leave this to dry for 3-5 minutes.
8) When the adhesive is dry, gently bring the lace forward over the adhesive.  Using your fingertip or the flat edge of a comb, firmly press the lace into the adhesive for a stronghold.

USEFUL TIPS:

For best results, keep the lace section dry for a few hours after bonding to ensure a strong hold.

Avoid leaving the lace bonded in place for too long (i.e. longer than one week), as the adhesive residue may break-down underneath and seep through the lace, which is very difficult to clean and can damage the lace, impacting the natural appearance.
